Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Elizabeth Haase MD, Medical Director of Behavioral Health at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. A psychiatrist with decades in private practice, Dr. Haase also serves as part of the voluntary faculty at the University of Nevada-Reno School of Medicine. The focus of her remarks at the tele-luncheon will be the mental health impacts of climate change.
A 1993 graduate of the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Haase was a Psychiatrist and Psychoanalyst at the Columbia University Medical Center until 2015, when she joined Carson Tahoe as Medical Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health, as well as the UNR School of Medicine as a Clinical Associate Professor. Her deep passion for nature has informed her research interest in the mental health impacts of climate change, leading to the foundation of the Climate Psychiatry Alliance and leadership of the Climate Committee for the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry.
Dr. Haase's past affiliations have included The Helix Center, The Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine, Riverdale Nature Preservancy, Chinese American Psychoanalytic Alliance, and other professional organizations. She writes about and works on projects to provide the resilience and other emotional skills necessary for maximal mitigation and adaptation to climate change, including the film "And Then the Climate Changed" with Jessica Haller and Jon Felix.
